4 Fad Diets To Avoid For Healthier Weight Loss

Desperate to lose weight? I know how you feel. I’ve been down that road before. As much as we crave for fast results, there are just some things that you shouldn’t do to get a quick fix. Here are 4 fad diets that you should avoid like a plague if you want to achieve healthier weight loss.

Atkins Diet

By far the most popular diet for the last few decades, the Atkins diet was made popular by many celebrity followers. However, a meat-based, low fiber diet like Atkins that advocates no fruit or starchy vegetables will almost double your risk of heart diseases.

The American Heart Association (AHA) does not recommend high-protein diets for weight loss. They argue that the Atkins diet restricts healthy foods that provide essential nutrients, and that it has not been proven effective for long term weight loss.

Cabbage Soup Diet

The cabbage soup diet is a radical weight loss diet designed around heavy consumption of a low-calorie cabbage soup over the time of seven days. With little nutritional variety or food diversity, it makes following this diet extremely difficult. In the long run you will almost certainly regain the weight loss.

Macrobiotic Diet

Made famous by Gwyneth Paltrow, a macrobiotic diet involves eating grains as a staple food supplemented with other foodstuffs such as local vegetables, avoiding the use of highly processed or refined foods and most animal products.

Without any animal or diary products on the menu, the risk of protein, iron and Vitamin B12 deficiencies increases, which can result in many health problems later.

Maple Syrup Diet

Endorsed by Beyonce, the Maple syrup diet involves drinking a mix of syrup, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and water for a couple of weeks.

It may help you to lose plenty of weight, but this low calorie diet plan will leave you hungry, irritable and lacking in energy as your blood sugar levels go on a roller coaster ride of highs and lows. And chances are, the pounds will go straight back on as soon as you stop the diet.

There you have it. Chasing the latest fad to jump on the weight loss bandwagon will surely lead you to more weight gain misery. However, if there is one fad diet that you should follow, it’s worthwhile to take a look at the Calorie Shifting Diet.

This weight loss programme has had plenty of success and has been hailed by many women for years by helping them lose weight not only in the shortest time, but in the long run as well.

A calorie shifting diet is a way to control what you eat without completely depriving yourself. The word “shifting” refers to the practice of eating a different number of calories each day. You do this by varying your foods so each meal is made up of different combos of protein, carbs, and fats. This keeps your body guessing so it doesn’t get too comfortable with one consistent calorie level.

The advantage of this diet is you can eat the foods you like for a few days on a regular diet cycle. This completely avoids the feeling of deprivation, which can be a big turn-off for many people.

Weight Loss Results

The results of my weight loss endeavor is nothing short of phenomenal. It’s been only about a month since I started the fatloss4idiots diet plan and I have already lost 23 pounds.

The results are better than I have expected them to be. This weight loss diet really gives me hope that I could be successful fighting the fats that I have so helplessly been trying to get rid off all these years.

Let’s do a simple math and see when I can achieve my long term weight objective of 110 pounds. I hit the scale at 185 pounds before I started this weight loss diet, and I managed to reduce my weight by 23 pounds in about a month. My weight is now 185 – 23 = 162 pounds. In order to reach 110 pounds, it will take me approximately 2.3 months to achieve my goal (162-110/23), assuming I consistently lose 23 pounds every month.

Thereafter, it’s only a matter of weight management and maintenance. How easy is that! The weight loss result so far is so good that it is itself the motivator that keeps spurring me on everyday.

This is really the beginning of a new dawn for me. Before I started, I never thought I could make it this far. What is even more amazing is that I am able to lose so much weight successfully in such a short time. It is really the icing on the cake.

I know there are many people who have gone through what I went through before I discovered this diet program. If you are one of them, I am proof that there are diet programs out there that really work.

Weight loss results differ from person to person. I guess the fact that I have been able to shed so much weight in such a short time is in no small part due to my determination and desire to make it work. Of course it helps to have a good diet program that can make your efforts so much easier.

As well, family support plays a very important part in whatever you do. My kids are too young to know about dieting, but I am fortunate to have a very supportive husband who keeps encouraging me.

Although I have some way to go before I reach my objective, I am confident I will be there in the end ;)

Did I Lose 9 Pounds In 11 Days?

After revealing that I have lost 1.4 kg in 2 days in my post My Experience With Fat Loss 4 Idiots, I got a flood of requests from people tracking my progress to post my results here.

By my own standard I must say I have actually been very successful on this diet. After 11 days, I have actually lost 7.7 lbs! Although it’s less than the 9 lbs claimed by the fatloss4idiots site, I’m not complaining.

I reckon if I continue with the diet, I should be able to achieve my long term objective, and that is to maintain my weight at 110 pounds, which is about 50 kg. That shouldn’t be too hard with the progress I’m making, and I should be able to make my hubby take a second look at me again in due course! ;)

Ok, let’s go through the past 11 days on how I managed to lose those weight. As I’ve mentioned, I started off well enough, losing 1.4 kg in 2 days. However, as the days go by, my weight loss couldn’t maintain the momentum. Losing the same amount of weight seems harder each day.

I guess I have to face the fact that not all diets will work the same for everyone. Some people can lose more than 9 pounds in 11 days, some lose less than that, while others won’t lose any weight at all. I have to keep telling myself I shouldn’t get too anal about this diet. At least it managed to reduce some of my weight!

Anyway, after 7 days I was off about 7 pounds, which wasn’t too bad as I was still within the target to lose 9 pounds in 11 days. I was actually hoping I could lose more weight than that, but was rather disappointed that I only managed to lose another 0.7 pounds in the final 2 days.

I think I should give myself more time, be consistent and stick to this diet plan religiously. As with anything in life, there is no silver bullet to cure all ills, least of all trying to lose weight!

I will update again in a month or so and let you know how I have progressed.

My Experience With Fat Loss 4 Idiots

Thank goodness I did not put off trying the shifting calories diet for long! I must say I wasn’t too keen when my friend recommended this weight loss diet to me as I had been on a few diet programs before without any success.

But after ranting about my unsuccessful weight loss efforts and receiving comments recommending this fat loss 4 idiots diet, I decided to do more research. Most have good things to say about this dieting program so I decided to take the plunge, and boy was I glad I did!

To say I was shocked by the result would really be an understatement. When I started the fat loss 4 idiots program, I made it a point not to look at the weighing scale for the first 3 days for fear that I would be disappointed again. But human nature is such that curiosity always gets the better of you and I couldn’t resist checking my weight after just 2 days… and boy was I in for a shocker! My weight dropped by almost 1.4kg!

I couldn’t believe it! I thought my weighing scale was fooling me, so I switched it on and off and weighed myself again and again a few times. Still the scale showed the same weight! Not convinced, I ran over to my neighbor and borrowed her scale, and it gave the same reading!

Oh man was I excited. 1.4kg after 2 days! It might not be much to you, but having lost just 3kg in 2 years, I can assure you that losing 1.4kg in just 2 days sure feels much better!

I’m still on my 4th day of diet and couldn’t wait to see the results when I have finished the whole course. This is really exciting time for me and already I am feeling much better. It might be psychological more than anything else, but what the heck! I’m entitled to being optimistic after so many failed attempts!

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this calorie shifting diet will be the one that can work for me. So far my experience with fat loss 4 idiots has been a good one. Will keep you posted on my progress in a few days.

I HATE Being FAT!

I am fat, and I hate it! How can I ever get rid those blobs of fats that dance around different parts of my body whenever I’m in motion?

[Update: I have since enrolled in a diet program that worked for me at last! Hopefully my weight will not go back to where it was before I started!]

I have spent the last 2 years trying to lose some of my 84kg load of fats, and by now have lost a total of 3kg! Three miserable kilograms of fats in two years! I like to think I am very obedient and follow every instruction on every weight loss method that I have tried. Exercises, patches, diet plans, diet pills, you name it, I have tried it.

Sure, there were some positive results whenever I started with a new weight loss program, but my weight would just creep back to almost square one after a month or so. I am still only 34, have three kids, of asian descent, but my body sure doesn’t feel this age. I thought asians are supposed to be petite and curvy, don’t we? Instead I feel like I am a gorilla living in chimpanzee land.

There must be 101 reasons I hate being fat, but what upsets me the most is that my second son is embarrassed of me. His friends have been teasing him about his fatty bom bom mommy and he is asking me not to fetch him to and from school anymore.

Another thing I hate is not being able to be involved in any outdoor play with them. Many times I would get breathless and be like a heap of hopeless fats splashed on the ground.

I am now seriously thinking of giving my last shot at another diet plan that my friend has recommended. Apparently, a friend of a friend of a friend of hers has tried this calorie shifting method and the results are impressive.

Haven’t got the time to check it out. Maybe now I should. Will update my post if I ever tried this new diet.

Oh, how I hate being fat!
